About Mikasa
Mikasa grew from an import business started in 1936 by Japanese-American Setsuo Aratani. After World War II his son George Aratani and partner Alfred Funabashi turned it toward fine china, adopting the Mikasa name in the 1950s. The company designed its own patterns and had them made by skilled factories in Japan, Germany and other countries, which kept quality high and prices reasonable. Mikasa dinnerware, crystal and giftware became fixtures in American homes from the 1960s onward.
